Missing Saavni Venna is seen in this picture next to her grandmother. Police say the grandmother was killed when the 10-month-old girl was taken..
UPPER MERION, Pa. -
An Amber Alert remains in effect and the FBI has now joined in the search for a 10-month-old girl who was taken from her home.
Police say someone took 10-month-old Saavni Venna from an apartment in King of Prussia during a murder.
The child's grandmother, 61-year-old Satayvathi Venna, who was visiting from India, was found dead inside the family's apartment in Upper Merion.
An Amber Alert was issued Monday afternoon for the 10-month-old, who is described as an Asian-Indian, just 2 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 21 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. The girl was last seen between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday.
The baby girl's father made an impassioned plea for whoever took the girl to return her safely.
"If someone finds my baby, could you please, please bring my baby back. Don't let any harm come to the baby. Public, please, please help me in this murder. Thank you," said Venkata Konda Siva Venna.
Police K-9s helped search the area around the Marquis Apartments on DeKalb Pike
Investigators say the parents emigrated from India in February 2007 and previously lived in San Antonio, Texas, Troy, Michigan and Cleveland, Ohio before moving to King of Prussia in June.
Upper Merion police weren't giving many details about the crime. But some say the complex has a history of security concerns.
As family and friends stay close to the police department for news, investigators hope someone out there knows what happened and will call police.
If you have any information, you're asked to call the Upper Merion Township Police Department at 610-265-3232 or the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368.
