Viral: UMass football players surprised with scholarships

Posted: Updated:

A video featuring two UMass Minutemen and their coach is starting to go viral.

At a team meeting last week, Coach Charley Molnar had two police officers show up, looking to serve papers on two players.

Defensive lineman Daniel Maynes and linebacker Rob O'Connor were called to the front of the room where the officers handed them envelopes.

Both Maynes, a sophomore from Waltham, and O'Connor, a junior from Westborough, tentatively take the packets and begin to open them. At the same time a projector shows their teammates what the two found inside.

"Coach Molnar is awarding you a full athletic scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic calendar year for your hard work and team dedication on and off the field," read a note contained in the envelope.

Their teammates then rush down to celebrate with the pair.

Since it was posted last week the video has more than 75,000 likes.
