Kent County SPCA Rescues Five Emaciated Horses From Camden Property

Posted: Updated:

Officials with the Kent County SPCA and Delaware Animal Care and Control (KSPCA/DEACC) say they've rescued five horses after they received an anonymous call regarding horses that appeared to be sickly and in very poor condition.

The call came in last Wednesday and the following day, officers say they descended on the Camden property and rescued the horses on the grounds of animal cruelty.

The SPCA says the four mares and one gelding were all underweight and have to gain over 100 pounds each.  One horse has to gain 333 pounds just to return to a healthy weight.

An equine veterinarian is tending to these horse's other ailments, which include rain rot and severe dental issues.

Officials say the owner of these horses is no stranger to the DEACC.

They were previously ordered to provide vet and dental care.  They did not follow the plan and the horses were signed over.

The owner is now facing numerous counts of animal cruelty.

Once given a clean bill of health by their veterinarian, they will be placed up for adoption.
