SPRINGFIELD (AP) - Springfield police say a 29-year-old man has been charged in an early morning fatal stabbing that may have been drug-related.
Police said Edwin Santiago was arrested Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center, where he had gone for treatment of a head injury. He was charged with murder in the death of 38-year-old Sadeeq Khalid Allah.
A department spokesman says officers responded to a home in the city's North End at about 4:30 a.m. where they found Allah in the back yard suffering from a stab wound under his arm. He was pronounced dead later at a hospital.
Police think the two men knew each other and got into a fight.
Santiago is to be arraigned Wednesday. It is not immediately known who is representing him.
The slaying was the ninth homicide in Springfield this year.
