Montco Students Show Support For Siblings Diagnosed With Rare Disease

Montgomery County, Pa. -

Students in Montgomery County walked to raise some much needed funds for a family who has two kids diagnosed with a rare and fatal disease.

Not long ago, the Vivian family learned their son, Eli, had Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), a genetic disorder that affects the nerves and muscles, organs and behavior.

Shortly after getting the news about Eli, the family learned their four-year-old daughter, Ella, was diagnosed with the same disease.

The two kids are now in the fight of their young lives.

The family says there is one piece of hope. A hospital study in Milan, Italy is trying to treat kids with MLD. The family says Eli might be too old for the treatment, but his sister might be eligible.

The family still is not sure if either child will get a slot in the Italian study.

Students in Oaks Wednesday morning took to the pavement to show their support during a walk to raise money.

Organizers say most of the money raised Wednesday will go to the Vivian family.
