YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Authorities say a 34-year-old man is charged with felony murder and child abuse following the death of a 1-year-old boy.

Washtenaw Co. Sheriff Jerry Clayton says deputies responded to reports of a child possibly choking at an Ypsilanti Township home early Sunday morning. When they arrived, they found Michael Curtiss holding the lifeless body of young Chase Miller.

Clayton says Miller died later that morning at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital. The cause of the death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head.

Curtiss is not related to the child.

A preliminary exam is scheduled for Nov. 6.
