As Hurricane Sandy makes its way to our area, AAA says the October storm is likely to bring with it hazardous driving conditions.
AAA says even a relatively small amount of water on the roadway can significantly reduce traction, increase stopping distances and increase the likelihood of an out of control skid.
"Rain, wind and wet leaves will reduce traction and visibility," said Jenny Robinson in a statement, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic.
"Stay safe by driving below the posted speed limit. Increase your following distance. And remember, by law in Pennsylvania, your headlights must be on when your wipers are on."
When driving, AAA recommends the following tips:
- Reduce speed significantly - Increase following distances - Turn on windshield wipers as soon as rain begins to fall - Use low-beam headlights - Never drive into any flooded area
