NEW BEDFORD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) New Bedford Police are searching for whoever is responsible for vandalizing a local Holocaust Memorial.
The Anti-Defamation League released a statement on Friday night regarding the vandalism that occurred in Veterans Memorial Buttonwood Park. A person passing through the park found the word "Sudan" painted across both sides of the memorial at about 7 a.m. on Friday morning.
"This crime is a sad reminder that anti-Semitism is still with us, and it is especially hurtful for Holocaust survivors and those personally impacted by the Holocaust," said Derrek L. Shulman, ADL New England Regional Director. "This act must not be tolerated in a shared community of respect, and should strengthen our resolve to combat hate and bigotry in all its forms."
The ADL says that the New Bedford Police Department launched an investigation as soon as they learned of the crime. Anyone with information about the act of vandalism should call New Bedford Police at 508-991-6300.
