CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Friday saw a record number of people turn out for early voting in Chicago, according to preliminary figures from the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

More than 19,000 people cast their ballots on Friday for the Nov. 6 general election, said election board spokesman Jim Allen.

So far this week, early voting was up nearly 60 percent compared to 2008, Allen said. Since early voting began on Monday, more than 83,800 people have voted, Allen said. More than 52,800 people took advance of early voting during the same five-day period in 2008.
