NJ Residents Urged To Prepare For Worst

Posted: Updated:
CAPE MAY, N.J. -

Several areas have already announced evacuation plans ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

Mandatory evacuations start in the southeastern part of Wilmington, Del., Sunday at noon.

Voluntary evacuations were already under way in Ocean City, N.J. Those became mandatory Sunday.

And mandatory evacuations are already under way in Avalon. Residents over there must be out by 4:00 p.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, parts of the shore are already emptying out.

In Cape May County, people are rushing to get out of town before mandatory evacuations go into effect there for the barrier islands and bayside communities.

People have been busy all day trying to get ahead of this storm, getting everything in place, boarding up their buildings, locking everything down. They say it is their best defense. Drill in hands, these crews do the work they hate but have to do.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen spent all day Saturday with them and filed this report.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
