Thousands Already Without Power As Worst Of Sandy Nears

PHILADELPHIA -

Thousands of homes in New Jersey were already without power as the worst of Hurricane Sandy moves closer to our area.

Atlantic City Electric reported several areas in South Jersey, especially along the Jersey Shore where power outages had already occurred.

Some of the biggest outage areas, according to Atlantic City Electric's outage map, included Ventner City, Margate City, Atlantic City and Sea Isle City.

By around 1:30 p.m., Atlantic City Electric reported 4,800 customers were without power in Cape May County.

In Delaware, Delmarva Power was reporting scattered outages throughout much of the state, with the Wilmington area experiencing the most outages thus far.

In Pennsylvania, PECO reported thousands of outages in Chester, Delaware, Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks counties.
