New York state and city and Port Authority officials announced the closure of several bridges and tunnels in the metro area.

"With weather conditions becoming more dangerous for drivers, I have directed bridges in the New York City area to be closed," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "State government is continuing to be vigilant in our preparations for Hurricane Sandy. I urge New Yorkers to continue tracking the storm by listening and watching the news and to follow the directions of local officials for their own safety."

Throgs Neck Bridge, Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, George Washington Bridge, Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge, Henry Hudson Bridge, Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, Bridge, Ed Koch Queensboro Bridges, Joseph P. Addabbo Memorial Bridge, Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Tappan Zee Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing, Bayonne Bridge, and Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge, RFK/Triboro Bridge, Holland Tunnel, and the Brooklyn-Battery (Hugh Carey) Tunnel are closed.

The Queens­­-Midtown Tunnel and the Lincoln Tunnel will remain open for now, but could be closed with very short notice.

In the Mid-Hudson Valley, the Bear Mountain Bridge, Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, Mid-Hudson Bridge, Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge, and Rip Van Winkle Bridge remain open for now.
