Corbett: Restoring Power To 1.3 MillIon In Dark Is Top Priority

HARRISBURG, Pa. -

Gov. Tom Corbett says his top priority will be making sure power is being restored to 1.3 million Pennsylvanians in the dark Tuesday morning after Hurricane Sandy.

Two deaths have been reported so far in the state, both attributed to falling trees, Corbett said.

About 600 people began the day in emergency shelters.

So far, 1,700 National Guard troops are deployed across the state.

Utility crews from outside the state are assisting with efforts to get the power back on, he added.

While major interstates around Philadelphia have been permitted to reopen, SEPTA and Amtrak rail service remained suspended Tuesday morning.

The governor also said he is in contact with the governors of New Jersey and New York to see what assistance can be provided to them.
