Gov. Markell Ends State Of Emergency

Posted: Updated:
SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. -

A State of Emergency in Sussex County, Delaware as ended, Gov. Jack Markell announced Wednesday.

Markell's office says the state of emergency remained in effect through Wednesday morning to allow for each area impacted by Sandy to be inspected.

As of 1 p.m., officials in Sussex County reported that all evacuation areas were cleared to open.

"Though we were spared the worst of Sandy, we did see significant damage in Delaware, especially in Sussex County and will be working to help those people and areas recover," Markell said in a statement.

Although the state of emergency ended, Markell says the Delaware National Guard will continue to provide support for storm cleanup and damage assessment operations.
