MARGATE, N.J. -

It was a day filled with excitement and sadness for residents of Margate as some returned to their homes for the first time since Hurricane Sandy made its way through the area.

On Thursday, the streets of Margate slowly started to look like neighborhoods again as a mandatory evacuation order was lifted.

Residents spent much of the day cleaning up from the storm.

Some homeowners suffered flood damage to their garages while others worked to clean up scattered debris.

Before the area opened up, a line of cars could be seen at the entrance to the Margate Bridge.

FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson spent the day with residents. You can watch her report in the video above.
