BROOKLINE, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) — A New Hampshire family is thankful after their dog was rescued from a fire at their lumber business in Brookline.

The three-alarm blaze at Bingham Lumber broke out just after 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the Union Leader. Crews got the fire under control around midnight.

Hadley, a boxer, is the mascot at Bingham Lumber. One of the first firefighters on scene, Assistant Chief Scottie Knowles, also works for the specialty lumber company on a part-time basis, and knew the dog was in his crate in the office.

"Scottie was able to go in and get Hadley out, and we're so thankful," Rebekah Bingham told the newspaper. "It's bad enough to lose the building, but it would have been awful for the kids to lose their dog, too."

Fire departments from several towns in New Hampshire and Massachusetts responded. Route 13 was shut down and crews shuttled water from a local pond to help fight the blaze.

Bingham Lumber is a family business that specializes in recycled wood products and antique wood.

The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
