Gas Rationing Gets Under Way In NJ

Posted: Updated:

Gasoline has become a valuable commodity in many parts of New Jersey.

Odd/even gas rationing went into effect Saturday in 12 counties, and it began with an odd day.

Starting at noon on Saturday, if the last number on your license plate was odd, you could fill up because Nov. 3 was an odd-numbered day.

Many gas stations have been forced to close because they have no power to run the pumps.

Gov. Chris Christie says that rationing is needed right now to keep things from getting out of hand trying to fuel up.

"We're working to create order and better access to gasoline for people in New Jersey. Now, you know that this is kind of a tale of two states. [Interstate] 195 and south, 95 percent of the gas stations are open and operate. [Interstate] 195 and north, about 30 percent of gas stations are open and operating. It is in the most part a power issue which we are moving to repair."

FOX's Adrienne Supino has more on how people are handling this fuel crisis, and whether everyone was getting the message about the gas rationing.
