HOBOKEN, N.J. -

During a Sunday storm briefing from Hoboken, New Jersey, Gov. Chris Christie emphasized the state was making progress following Hurricane Sandy and promised residents that what needed to get done would get done.

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano joined the New Jersey governor for the briefing, which reporters and members of the community attended.

Less than a million residents in New Jersey are without power in less than a week's worth of work, Christie said, a number that has dropped from 2.7 million after the storm hit.

Napolitano says hundreds of FEMA workers are on site in New Jersey, along with hundreds of community relations representatives who are able to help displaced residents with everything from child care to housing.

Napolitano says additional FEMA resources are on their way to the state.

During the storm briefing, Christie also announced that the federal government extended public assistance to all 21 New Jersey counties as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

While Christie says the state has made progress, there is still a lot of work to do. The governor says the work this past week has been about getting New Jersey back to normal and reminded residents that they would need to be patient once the rebuilding process begins.
