Wrong ballots delivered at some RI polling places

Posted: Updated:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The wrong ballots were delivered to polling places in at least two jurisdictions in Rhode Island and long lines were reported during morning voting.

Officials in South Kingstown and West Warwick tell The Associated Press that incorrect ballots were delivered by the state Board of Elections for two polling places. Voting was delayed at West Kingston Elementary School in South Kingstown and Elks Lodge in West Warwick. Officials said some voters left without voting.

The correct ballots are now available.

Dawn Piers of the South Kingstown Board of Canvassers called it a "very unfortunate mix-up."

Robert Kando, the head of the state Board of Elections, could not immediately be reached.

A spokesman for Secretary of State Ralph Mollis says long lines are typical in a presidential election year.
