Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand wins re-election in NY

Posted: Updated:

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., has won re-election Tuesday night. With a victory over Republican challenger Wendy Long, Gillibrand has now won a full 6-year term.

Then-Gov. David Paterson appointed Gillibrand, who was an upstate congresswoman, to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Senate when the former First Lady resigned to serve as President Barack Obama's secretary of state.

Gillibrand served two years before winning a special election in 2010 to serve out the rest of Clinton's term.
