25-year-old Coventry, R.I. resident is dead as a result of a car crash on Route
28 southbound.
Emergency crews responded to the wreck on Macarthur
Boulevard, approximately 200 feet north of Jonathan Bourne Drive, around 9:30
a.m. on Thursday. The vehicle crashed into an electric utility pole with such
force that the pole split in two.
According the officials, the operator was trapped in the
vehicle.
NSTAR crews had to shut off a power grid in the area to allow
rescuers access to the trapped victim because the pole that was struck had live
electrical wires.
A preliminary revealed that the vehicle hydroplaned on the
slick roadway and struck the pole.
Route 28 southbound was shut down as a result of
the accident.
