The Warren man facing charges of neglect after his obese wife died will now be able to see his children.
37-year-old Michael Brooks waived his preliminary exam on Thursday and now faces a hearing on November 19th in Macomb County Circuit Court.
Brooks was charged with Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult which is a four-year felony. Prosecutors say Brooks is accused of allowing his wife Yolanda Reese-Brooks to live in her own waste after she was bedridden following a car accident in February of 2011.
According to police reports on October 16 she was found lying in her own waste and had to be taken from the apartment she shared with her husband and four children by Fire and EMS workers in full HAZMAT gear. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.
An autopsy showed Reese-Brooks died of multiple injuries and complications from obesity. She weighed nearly 400 pounds.
On Thursday a judge modified bond for Brooks allowing him supervised visitation with his 13-year old, 11-year old and his 2-year old twins. Attorney Eric Lundquist who is representing Brooks on the custody issues says the children are living with their aunt and the Department of Protective Services is not looking to severe his client's parental rights.
Brooks had nothing to say during today's hearing.
