Eskin On Andy Reid And The Eagles: 'He's Done'

PHILADELPHIA -

For the first time in his career, Andy Reid has lost five consecutive games as head coach of the Eagles.

The Birds lost Sunday's game to the Cowboys and also lost quarterback Michael Vick. A concussion sent Vick into the locker room late in the second quarter.

And the chances of Vick playing next week against the Washington Redskins are not good. He left the stadium still woozy, and there are a series of tests he will have to pass this week before he is cleared to practice or play again.

This is the fourth straight year as an Eagle that Vick has been injured.

Vick's injury opened the door for rookie quarterback Nick Foles to make his debut. Foles excited the crowd with this 44-yard touchdown to Jeremy Maclin to give the Eagles a 14-10 lead.

But Foles later gave up an interception resulting in a Cowboys touchdown. Dallas won 38-23.

So, the question to Reid after the game was who is the quarterback next week?

"Listen, I'm not going to get – he's the quarterback, yeah, but he's hurt right now. So I've got to just see how he's doing. I mean, let's take a little consideration into Michael here."

Later, Reid added, "Nobody can predict the future, so, but I was hoping he'd make it through without having a concussion here. But that's where we sit right now with him right now. And the kid's a warrior. He's tough, competitive, and the whole works."

Eagles fans are not happy about the team's 3-6 record, tying them for last place in the NFC East with the Redskins. And every fan has an opinion on what the team should do to improve.

The headline on the back cover of the Daily News today poked fun at the coach's oft-made remark at news conferences about doing a better job. The headline reads, "I Gotta Go Find A Better Job."

Eskin reported on "Good Day" Monday morning that he's told Vick "does not have a very good chance of playing next week."

The sports anchor added, "If I had to bet on it right now, … I would say Nick Foles will be in there for the rest of the season. The record dictates that. Andy Reid wants to be loyal, but [Vick's] not going to play next week, Nick Foles will get better each game."

What happens to Reid?

"He's done," Eskin said, although he doesn't expect it to happen today.

"Here's what I did notice yesterday. … Jeffrey Lurie usually comes down to the sideline before the games," Eskin said, noting that he usually sees the Eagles owner there while preparing for broadcasts. "And [Lurie] wasn't there. I know he was at the game. So, if you want to add some more drama to this whole thing, why did he not come down? Because maybe he didn't want to talk to people because they would ask him the question?"

To answer a question from "Good Day's" Mike Jerrick's about whether any immediate head coaching change might come, Eskin answered, "I don't think it will be changed today. Who would you replace him with? It would just be one of the coaches on the staff, so people wouldn't be happy with that."

Eskin added that they've also fired a defensive coordinator and released players, and it still hasn't made things better.

"You know, they were good until they just implode – this team just implodes, and that's the problem," Eskin said. "But, obviously, this is Andy Reid's last year, this is Michael Vick's last year – Michael Vick wasn't going to be back anyway, but now it just speeds up the process."
