Science Lab Experiment Burns 6 Students, 1 Teacher In NJ

Posted: Updated:
VOORHEES, N.J. -

A science classroom experiment resulted in a fire that sent six teachers and one teacher to area hospitals Monday afternoon in South Jersey.

Initial reports were that two of the students suffered serious burns during the incident at Eastern Senior High School in Voorhees, although officials said in a statement on the school's website that the seven individuals were taken in "for medical treatment and precautionary reasons."

FOX 29 News was told the incident was a "flash fire," possibly caused by an alcohol substance in a lab.

Because of nature of the fire, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office has called an arson investigator out to the high school.

FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser will have a live report from the scene coming up on the FOX 29 News at 5 & 6.
