WORCESTER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Worcester State University officials are advising residential students to not return to campus Monday night due to a water main break on Chandler Street which has flooded some parts of the campus.

Worcester State University has also cancelled Tuesday's classes because the water has affected two buildings and other parts of the campus.

As a precaution, officials have shut off power to the campus.

Officials alerted students of the water main break via e-mail, text, and the university's website, as well as Facebook and Twitter messages.

The water main break occurred around 12:30 p.m.

Crews are assessing the impact of the water main break and will keep the campus community updated throughout the ordeal.

Arthur Korp of the city public works department said the system in that area is old and the water flowed into a lower lying area at the front of the campus. Water pressure was low in a nearby neighborhood and the city said residents could see rusty water.
