Oakland University students mistakenly sent 'shots fired' message

ROCHESTER, Mich. (WJBK) -- Students at Oakland University received a brief scare Tuesday afternoon when the school's emergency text message system mistakenly announced shots fired on campus.
University officials quickly issued the following response on its website:
"During scheduled testing of Oakland University's emergency text message system, a voicemail announcing shots fired on campus was mistakenly issued. There is no emergency. University officials are working to ensure the situation does not occur again. Any additional updates will be posted on the university homepage."
A tweet from the university's official Twitter account followed up the post: "There is no emergency. During a test of OU's text message system, a voicemail announcing shots fired on campus was mistakenly issued."
Nearly 20,000 students are enrolled at the university, located 25 miles north of Detroit.
