AC Casino Management Laying Off Workers After Sandy

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Atlantic City's casinos have been empty.

That has forced management to lay off workers, cut back hours and make some employees take unpaid leaves.

The city's 12 casinos closed for almost a full week following the storm.

They say even since reopening, business has slowed considerably.

Meanwhile, Gov. Chris Christie says New Jersey residents in storm-ravaged areas could soon see higher property taxes.

But he says, one of the exemptions of the state's 2-percent cap law is emergencies like Superstorm Sandy.

Because of this, towns can maximize their federal reimbursement for storm clean-up costs by contracting with a state-approved firm.
