Mass. Lt. Gov. Murray: I'd like to be governor

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray is eyeing the governor's office.

Murray speaking Thursday before the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce said "like many of you in the room, I would like to be governor."

The Democrat stopped short of making a formal announcement, while making it clear he wants to succeed Gov. Deval Patrick, who has said he won't seek another term.

Murray is one player in what could be a complex game of political musical chairs during the next two years.

Others, including Democratic state Treasurer Steven Grossman and Republican Charles Baker, are also said to be eyeing the governor's office.

And if U.S. Sen. John Kerry is named to an Obama cabinet post, that could set of a special election scramble to fill his seat.
