MEDFORD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Secret Santa's are at it again this holiday season giving one Medford grandmother an unexpected gift.

In the past three years, Ann Driscoll has lost her husband, her job, and her home, so financially times have been tough.

Driscoll had put a bike for her 2-year-old grandson on layaway at the Wal-Mart in Danvers, but was $50 short and couldn't afford the Christmas gift. However, when she arrived at the store, the cashier told her that an anonymous person had paid off her entire balance.

Driscoll was free to take the bike home.

"It just brought tears to my eyes," Driscoll told FOX 25's Jarrod Holbrook. "I just want to thank this person, to know we are so grateful for what he did, ‘cause he did such a great deed. He really, really did. And without that, I don't think my grandson would've had this girl for Christmas."

Last holiday season, Secret Santa's went viral. At stores across the country, people's layaway toys were getting paid off at random. This year it's happening even before Thanksgiving.

"For our customers to take care of customers and be able to help in this time when a lot of people are struggling, it's just a tremendous joy," Walmart employee Rita Weir said. "I just want to say thank you and God bless him and his family for doing such a great act of kindness."
