Neighbors and parents are on edge near the Carnell Middle and Elementary schools at Summerdale and Benner after a 14-year-old girl reported an attempted luring Monday morning as she walked to school.
"I think this man should be caught, hopefully and get him off the streets," said Steven Benson who lives right around the corner from the schools.
"She was approached by a male in a car, he tried to lure her into the car," said School District spokesman Fernando Gallard.
The eighth grader refused the driver's attempts to get her in the car and quickly told a crossing guard, who then notified school officials and the police.
"I have a daughter that goes here, it's very scary for a parent and I think it's very ridiculous for someone to go after a child," added parent Rosalyn Wrotten.
The student described the suspect as an Indian man in his 40s with long dark hair. He was wearing a gold and maroon jacket and driving a blue Toyota Echo.
Benson lives in the neighborhood by the school and says everyone should be on the lookout.
"You hear about it, but you never hear about it where you're at. You know it happens, that's a disgrace," he said.
Security was increased near the scene of the incident as classes let out. School officials sent a letter home to parents alerting them to the luring attempt.
So far, investigators are not linking this attempt to four others near the Harding Junior High School from November 5th to the 15th.
School officials say students and parents should be on guard.
"I think parents should try to meet their kids to make sure that their safe coming and going from school, that's what I'm doing," one parent told FOX 29.
School officials say increased security will continue until classes end for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Anyone with information should call the Philadelphia Police Department's Special Victims Unit.
