Kevin's Thanksgiving Day forecast

Posted: Updated:

by FOX 25 Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz:

Traffic will be a problem, of course, but the weather won't make it worse today. Just some clouds to start, but those will break up as the sun gets higher in the sky.

Flying out of area airports will be problem-free (at least from a weather perspective) to much of the country. The one glaring exception is the Pacific Northwest. A huge storm continues to churn offshore sending waves of heavy rain to the area. Strong winds have caused damage and there has been snow in the mountains. Travelers to there or coming from there may be delayed.

Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday will both start with clouds that will break up for sun. Temperatures will be in the 50s both days, though it will be in the upper 30s to 40s for high school football games Thursday and in the 20s-30s for early shoppers Friday.

Big changes come with a cold front this weekend. Rain showers ahead of it in the mild air could end as flurries as cold air comes rushing in. Another storm forming next week will likely bring rain to the northeast, and possibly some snow. It is too soon to say for sure. Time frame for that is Tuesday/Wednesday.

Safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving.
