PHILADELPHIA -

Hundreds of shoppers in the Philadelphia traded in their Thanksgiving meals for the Black Friday deals one day earlier.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley spent the morning with shoppers at a southwest Philadelphia Kmart who were waiting in line to shop before sunrise.

The Kmart store opened its doors at 6 a.m.

Multiple checkout lanes were made available to shoppers who were looking to take advantage of the day before Black Friday deals.

One shopper who was eighth in line when the doors opened tells FOX 29 that spending her morning shopping was worth it. The shopper says she plans to wait in line for WalMart to open at 6 p.m. Thursday night.

Some retailers this year have opted to the open doors a day earlier, which has caused controversy among consumers and employees.

Some WalMart employees even planned to protest the company's plans to open before Black Friday.

In Deptford, New Jersey, shoppers have been waiting since the start of the week outside of a Best Buy store for the holiday bargains. Shoppers told FOX 29 Wednesday night they were happy to forgo the Thanksgiving traditions if it meant being among the first in line.
