Thanksgiving weekend comes to an end as travelers head home

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Travelers went through O'Hare International Airport without any major delays on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

"Uneventful, the flight was wonderful," one passenger described. That seemed to be the sentiment coming from many passengers throughout O'Hare airport.

"We came from Los Angeles to Chicago and American did a great job, absolutely," Ifaat Bosse said.

The board lit up with on time flights inside, as it was cool and clear outside on one of the most traveled days of the year.

"My mom and I left Chicago a little bit early to go to Los Angeles, so that went pretty smoothly," Kate Cornelius said.

But, that wasn't the case for all passengers.

"My sister and my dad were flying from New York and they had a bunch of trouble and delays and all of that. O'Hare is just better, I guess," Cornelius added.

AAA released that 43.6 million people traveled for the holiday, that was slightly up from last year. Holiday air travel took a dip with just over 3 million people choosing to fly to visit friends and relatives.

The Monroe family were two of the 3 million.

"We were out visiting our son's family. Our oldest son is serving in Afghanistan, so we had a chance to have thanksgiving with his wife and their two children, our grandsons. So it was a memorable trip for us," Robert Monroe said.

Even they admit, they were a bit on edge to travel home with the crowds. They were pleasantly surprised.

"We were expecting a lot more chaos on the travels. But, there wasn't, everything was planned and everyone seemed to be well staffed," Monroe added.
