White Plains residents say they warned neighbor about leaning tree

MYFOXNY.COM -

Several residents of one street in White Plains told me they had been worried for years that a 90-foot maple on their neighbor's property would come crashing down. When Superstorm Sandy hit, the tree did just that.

Like many New York City suburbs, beautiful trees line quiet streets in White Plains. But the scene on on street turned downright ugly after Superstorm Sandy came through with a bang.

Pamela Friedman says her neighbor's maple that had been leaning towards her home for years came down in the storm. It totaled her car and damaged her daughter's car as well, Friedman says. It also put a hole in their driveway and roof.

Friedman and another neighbor, Jessica Ressler, say they have been warning their neighbor that the tree was a hazard.

Ressler says she was so worried about that giant maple behind her home that she wrote a letter to the homeowner asking for it to be removed, but did not hear back.

Ressler says the tree destroyed her car and damaged her home.

Fox 5 went seeking comment from the owner. The person at the door had no comment.
