The scars from Superstorm Sandy that are visible on nearly every block in New Dorp, Staten Island, are painful, raw reminders of the devastation left by the storm.
Cory Herrera and her daughters lost everything when flood waters swallowed their home; a difficult situation complicated further by upcoming holidays.
So Sue Sudovar and friend, Patricia Fitzgibbon, decided to give back this holiday. They have started collecting toys for families who lost all their personal belongings to the storm.
Through social media and collection bins at work, they have collected nearly 300 gifts. The have partnered with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation help make sure families who lost everything will have something to give their kids this holiday.
The group will be hosting their biggest collection yet this Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the Plaza Hotel.
