2 Winning Tickets Sold For Record $579.9-Million Powerball Jackpot

PHILADELPHIA -

The richest Powerball jackpot in U.S. history has been won. But a major question remains: Who are the $580-million winners?

Two winning tickets were sold in Arizona and Missouri for Wednesday night's record Powerball jackpot.

The winning numbers drawn Wednesday night were 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and Powerball of 6.

But, don't fret if you didn't hit the jackpot. You could be among 8,924,125 others who won some prize in the lottery.

That includes Match 5 Winners in 25 states, who get $1 million prizes.

Locally, there were three winning tickets for the Match 5 sold in Pennsylvania and eight sold in New Jersey, according to Powerball.com results.

The non-jackpot prizes total more than $131.5 million, the lottery says.

The record Powerball jackpot sent Americans in droves to buy lottery tickets across the country.

In fact, they went on a ticket-buying spree in recent days as tickets were selling at a rate of $130,000 per minute nationwide! That's about six times the volume from a week ago.

It even pushed the jackpot -- originally estimated to be $425 million after no one won on Saturday -- to $579.9 million by the time of the drawing, making the cash option almost $378 million.
