DETROIT (WJBK) -- Kwame Kilpatrick is on trial facing federal corruption charges, but Detroit's former mayor says he's actually a crime fighter.  The story came to light thanks to a tweet.

Kilpatrick says he stopped a would-be burglar near his mother's home on Detroit's west side.

Chris Thompson lives nearby.

"We haven't seen anything or heard anything about break-ins around here lately."

He would have heard about one if he followed Kilpatrick on Twitter.  Wednesday night, Kilpatrick tweeted, "Dude breaking into a house on Moms street.  I yelled 'Hey get out of there.'  He said 'Damn, Ok Kwame.'  Then asked me for a picture.  Wow!"

When asked whether he called the police, Kilpatrick tweeted, "No way.  The police would book me for sure."

I couldn't find anyone on the block who actually saw it or heard any commotion Wednesday, but that certainly doesn't mean it didn't happen.  So while there are plenty of questions here, one thing is for sure.  Kwame Kilpatrick still knows how to grab our attention, even on Twitter.
