Storm ravaged homes burn in Manasquan

Posted: Updated:

MANASQUAN, N.J. (AP) -- Firefighters appear to have gained the upper hand on several house fires near Manasquan beach, which was hard-hit by Superstorm Sandy.

Helicopter footage from News 12 New Jersey shows most of the flames are out and firefighters are hosing down hot spots.

The blaze broke out in the homes along 1st Avenue around 5 a.m. The homes are close together and stand in front of homes that are along Manasquan's beachfront.

TV footage shows extensive damage and a blackened foundation. What's not clear is whether the structure on the foundation burned down or was destroyed earlier by Sandy.

There's no word whether any people were in the homes.

Manasquan's oceanfront sustained substantial damage from Sandy. The town reopened the beachfront on Monday.
