Judge orders Gov’t to turn over any Bulger immunity records

Posted: Updated:

Judge Richard G. Stearns has issued an order requiring the U.S. Government to turn over any records indicating they offered immunity to James "Whitey" Bulger.

In October, a lawyer for Bulger said former U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Jeremiah O'Sullivan granted Bulger immunity to commit crimes while he was an FBI informant.

The order came among more than two dozen defense discovery requests, most of the others were denied or deemed "moot."

The 83-year-old Bulger is accused of participating in 19 murders. He fled Boston in 1994 and remained one of the FBI's most wanted fugitives until his capture in California last year.
