LIPA failed miserably during superstorm Sandy, according to Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.
Ninety-percent of the island lost power.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has appointed a new head of the utility, Lawrence Waldman.
A state panel took testimony from LIPA officials and county executives earlier this week.
One of those people was Bellone.
"I think the important thing is that we get the right person. This person demonstrated there was a leadership gap at LIPA," Bellone told Good Day NY on Wednesday.
