DETROIT (WJBK) -- There was a fiery crash along I-94 Wednesday afternoon near Lonyo in Detroit.  The accident shut down the expressway for a time.  Police say the impact also sent concrete flying across the freeway.

From the sky, the horrific crash looked deadly.  A semi truck full of cleaning solution jackknifed on I-94 eastbound and then burst into flames.

"It was like a big old boom, and then like I got down because I thought it was a gunshot.  I didn't know what was going on," said Bayandre House.

"Sitting in the living room watching TV and all of a sudden I heard an explosion.  I looked out the window and you could see nothing but a big old cloud of smoke," said Beverly Wallace.

The semi is owned by Arrow Chemical Products.  Detroit EMS said the driver refused medical attention and may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Several other cars were damaged when the semi jumped the median.  A 19-year-old girl was taken to Henry Ford Hospital for back pain after the car she was inside was hit with cement debris.

"It was horrible.  Somebody could've got killed or hurt," House commented.
