FAIRHAVEN (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A male suspect who led police on a high speed chase and nearly hit several officers in the process on Dec. 5 is facing a multitude of charges, including resisting arrest, speeding and vandalism, and assault by means of a dangerous weapon, for the calamitous incident.

Police converged on 23-year-old Derrick Ambrose's rented room at the Huttleston Motel to execute a search warrant and found the suspect walking towards a rented vehicle parked in the lot of the motel.

Ambrose reportedly jumped into the vehicle when he saw police and fled west on Route 6 where he was delayed by traffic congestion. He then headed south on Adams Street where he blew out a tire near the Spring Street intersection.

Ambrose then reportedly bailed out of the vehicle on Friendly Street and led officers on a brief foot chase until being apprehended by authorities near Pleasant Street

Detectives returned to the motel Ambrose to conduct the search of the room. Officers seized countless empty baggies commonly used in the packaging of drugs, a scale, a box of plastic baggies and suboxone pills. Over $500 in cash was seized from Ambrose and a small amount of marijuana was seized from the vehicle he was operating.

The vehicle Ambrose used for the chase had been rented by 28-year-old Rebecca Andrade, of New Bedford. She is being criminally charged with allowing an improper operator to drive a leased vehicle and for allowing an unlicensed person to operate a motor vehicle.

Ambrose, who also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a red light violation, three counts of a stop sign violation, operating a motor vehicle so as to endanger, failing to stop for police, marked lanes violations, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, speeding and vandalism for breaking a picket fence that he jumped over during his foot chase.
