LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -- When the governor called in the media last week he said he was backing right-to-work legislation because this issue was not going away and it was his hope that resolving it in the legislature would allow him to turn the page.
Not so fast, warn the Democrats.
"If the governor thinks this will end the debate, he is dead wrong." That from Rep. Tim Greimel (D-Oakland Co.), the new and incoming House Democratic leader.
The legislative discussion is just about over, but the Democrats intend to keep this alive for the next two years with hopes of making Gov. Rick Snyder a one-term chief executive.
They are also considering recalls of senators who voted yes; they are contemplating legal action to block the law; they are considering a statewide petition drive to undo what the GOP governor and lawmakers are poised to do.
Does that sound like the issue is over?
Not by a long shot.
Give this governor credit. Once he decided to go there, he got the job done in five days which also hacked off the democrats who could find no silver lining in this debate.
Listen to the emotions flowing out of the House this week. Rep. Jon Switalski (D-Warren) warned the Republicans. "We're left with a divided state. People out there (demonstrating in the capitol) are yelling; they're angry and filled with hate. This is the state you are leaving us."
Contrast that with the overjoyed GOP House Speaker Jase Bolger. The Battle Creek Republican calling this a "game changer" which gives workers choice in the work place.
No, on this one there is no middle ground.
And it now becomes a battle ground issue that refuses to go away.

For obvious reasons nobody in the capitol press corps would ever admit this publicly. But if you applied a little truth serum, some would begrudgingly concede that Gov. Rick Snyder is a master at staying on message.
