(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – We may never know why Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and started shooting, but we are learning more of his background, specifically more about the relationship between Lanza and his first victim, his mother.
Investigators say the two visited shooting ranges together, but it's unclear whether the 20-year-old actually practiced any shooting at the range.
There are several reports that Adam Lanza suffered from the autism-related Asperger's syndrome and one friend reportedly says Nancy Lanza would bring her son to the shooting range to try and forge a bond with him.
The mother reportedly had a tough time with her son's inability to express love and upset he wouldn't let her hug him.
The 52-year-old mother was reportedly focused on helping her troubled son build a life for himself, contemplating a move to a new city for college where her son could study engineering.
The divorced mother of two was well known at a local bar in Newtown, where she talked of her favorite team, the Boston Red Sox, spoke proudly of her two sons and regularly offered to pick up the tab.
Adam Lanza was estranged from his father, Peter Lanza, who lives in Stamford, Conn., and according to the Daily Mail, works as a VP of taxes for GE Energy Services. The father and his new wife of three years have been hiding out since hearing of the massacre on Friday.
The Daily Mail also says Peter Lanza has been an adjunct professor at Northeastern University in Boston since 1995.
The Huffington Post is reporting Nancy Lanza had previously worked as a stock broker at John Hancock in Boston.
