Extra security measures taken at schools after Conn. massacre

Posted: Updated:

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – School districts across the country are now reviewing their own safety procedures in light of the tragedy in Newtown.

In Massachusetts, school officials from several cities and towns sent out e-mails and phone recordings to parents highlighting security measures. Some met with law enforcement.

In Amesbury, the mayor and police chief sat down with the school superintendent to ensure safety practices in the district are up to date.

Several local schools are also increasing security Monday, including Boston Public Schools.

Superintendent Carol Johnson says she's worked closely with Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis to step up police visibility at schools.

Additional staff and counselors will also be on hand in all of the schools over the next several days to help students process what happened in Connecticut.
