PHILADELPHIA -

Hundreds of dollars worth of packages were stolen right off the porches of some Roxborough homes, leaving some residents without Christmas gifts.

Karen Remolde tells FOX 29's Lauren Cohn she was devastated when the box containing a gift for her 8-year-old daughter was stolen right off her front porch on Ripka Street.

"I've had big boxes dropped off and its never happened, I'm shocked," Remolde said.

Remolde isn't alone.

She says her neighbor reported three boxes that were taken off his stoop as well.

Police say those items were worth around $500.

Maryann Gilbert, who lives nearby on Lauriston Street, says within the same week someone broke into her car and took her daughter's gift. The stolen box contained a pair of shoes she says were worth $70.

While she says the shoes were found and dropped off on her stoop, the list of crimes in the area goes on.

Police say a package was taken from a business around the corner on Shurs Lane. The business now has a sign posted on its door instructing UPS not to deliver due to the theft problem.

At a nearby depot on Ridge Avenue, someone broke into a delivery truck and took 12 boxes of cheesesteaks.

"It's terrible, I can't believe people do that, seems to happen a lot recently," Roxborough resident Meredith Cassel said.
