Fall River to post police at schools

Posted: Updated:

FALL RIVER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) — Massachusetts officials continue to examine new school security measures in the aftermath of the Connecticut school shooting.

In Fall River, Mayor William Flanagan says the city will station police officers at all public schools in the district starting on Wednesday.

Flanagan told the Herald News the move came in response to calls in recent days from parents worried about the safety of their children.

But some school administrators say they want more information about the exact roles and responsibilities of the police officers who will be posted to schools.

The principal of the James Morton Middle School, Sheryl Rabbitt, says while she appreciates the mayor's gesture, she also wonders if the presence of police officers at schools might only add to the anxiety that people are feeling.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
