49 rabbits found Manchester, NH home

Posted: Updated:

BEDFORD, N.H. (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire rescued 49 rabbits from a home in Manchester and six Persian cats from another home.

Maureen Prendergast, Director of Outreach & Investigations, was on call over the holidays, and it's a good thing she was.

Prendergast spent her Saturday helping the Manchester Animal Shelter prepare for the arrival of 49 rabbits since their shelter typically doesn't handle small animals. The following day, the rabbits were documented, and 12 were transferred to the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire.

"It was really important that we took the time to document each one. Because the owner had yet to surrender the rabbits, we had to prepare to testify in court. As a result, each rabbit had to be carefully inspected and recorded," Prendergast said.

Luckily, the owner decided to surrender all the animals on Monday. The animals will now be put up for adoption.

Prendergast was also contacted by the owner of several Persian cats because the owner realized that she was not able to give the cats the care and attention they desperately needed.

The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire is accepting donations to neuter and care for these animals. If you would like to help, visit www.rescueleague.org, and click donate.
