Fire-Bombing Suspected Cause Of Frankford Blaze

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

An early-morning fire at a Frankford home left a man in critical condition and is being investigated as a suspected fire-bombing, police said.

The incident was reported around 6:35 a.m. Thursday on the 1500 block of Foulkrod Street, near Griscom Street.

A fire marshal was called out to the scene to investigate a possible arson, and police set up a crime scene investigation.

Police said it appears to be arson, but an official cause has yet to be released.

Police said a man later showed up at Temple University Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and severe burns. He had been taken there in a private vehicle and was reported to be in critical condition.

Some neighbors reported hearing gunshots around the time the blaze broke out, but others didn't hear anything. Officers have not said whether they found any evidence of gunfire.

Authorities are continuing to investigate and try to sort out what happened at the residence.
