Residents throughout the tri-state are dealing with the snow and the slick roads on Saturday.
A Winter Weather Advisory was been issued for most of the area as snow developed across the area by late Saturday morning but with temperatures a bit warmer over eastern Long Island and along the Jersey Shore, rain will mix in with the snow for those areas.
The city Department of Sanitation issued a snow alert, beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday.
A snow alert indicates the possibility of a snow event. In preparation for a snow event, DSNY personnel begin initial equipment readiness, including loading its 365 salt spreaders, attaching plows when necessary, preparing tire chains and notifying supplementary personnel as needed.
DSNY is coordinating with the Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Transportation on snow clearing protocol in accordance with each agency's written snow plan.
All relevant city agencies have been notified of the snow alert. DSNY will continue to monitor forecasts and will provide updates as the snow event approaches.
To give customers additional travel options during the expected inclement weather conditions, NJ TRANSIT will offer full system wide cross-honoring for the entire service day on Saturday, December 29, enabling NJ TRANSIT customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode-rail, bus or light rail.
